Reels Remix

Side-by-side content that says: me too, but better.

Reels Remix is an Instagram feature that lets you create a new video that plays alongside an existing public Reel—either side-by-side or in sequence. It’s Instagram’s answer to duets and response videos, giving you a way to build on trending content, react to other creators, or collaborate without having to re-upload the original clip. When you remix, your content and the original appear together, tagged to each other, so viewers can easily flip between both perspectives.

How is Reels Remix different from just reposting?

Reposting is passive—you share someone else’s content as-is. A remix is active collaboration. Your new footage appears alongside theirs in a split-screen or alternating format, giving both creators shared visibility. The original creator gets tagged, viewers can navigate between the two videos, and the algorithm treats it as fresh, original content from you. That’s why remixes often outperform straight reposts: they feel like a conversation, not a copy.

Can you remix any Reel you find?

No. The original Reel must be public, and the creator has to have remix enabled in their settings. Private accounts and creators who’ve disabled remixing won’t show the option when you tap the three-dot menu. This protects creators who don’t want their content remixed. Once you find a remix-enabled Reel, tap the three-dot menu, select “Remix This Reel,” and start recording your response video.

What’s a good use case for duet-style collaboration?

Brands and creators use remixes for reaction videos, tutorials, challenges, and customer testimonials. An influencer might remix a product demo with genuine excitement, a creator could twist a trending recipe, or a customer could showcase how they use a product. These response videos feel authentic because they’re real-time reactions—not scripted. They also inherit some reach from the original Reel, so tapping into popular content boosts your visibility.

What makes a Reels Remix actually stand out?

Don’t just react passively. Add value: offer a contrasting opinion, share a tip the original missed, show humor, or demonstrate something new. Hook viewers in the first second—pose a question, show the outcome, or tease a surprise. Keep it snappy (15–30 seconds is ideal), add text or effects to guide the viewer’s eye, and include a call-to-action that encourages engagement or further remixing. The best remixes feel like a natural conversation, not a forced response.
