Twitter/X Spaces

Clubhouse, but make it Twitter.

X Spaces is a live audio feature on X (formerly Twitter) that lets you host or join real-time audio conversations with your audience. Unlike traditional posts or videos, Spaces are ephemeral—they exist only while they’re live—but hosts can record them for later playback. Anyone can listen in, but the host controls who gets to speak, making it a powerful tool for interviews, Q&As, announcements, and community building.

Why would a brand or creator use X Spaces?

Spaces let you connect with your audience without needing production equipment or being camera-ready. You can host a live conversation, answer questions in real time, and build a more intimate relationship with followers. Since Spaces appear highlighted at the top of your followers’ timelines, they get immediate visibility. Brands use them for product launches, expert panels, and customer conversations. Creators use them for behind-the-scenes chats, live Q&As, and thought leadership. The audio-only format removes the pressure of video while maintaining the authenticity of live conversation.

How do you become a host or speaker?

Anyone with an X account can join and listen to a Space. To host one, you need to meet X’s eligibility requirements (account age, follower count varies by region). As a host, you have complete control: you can invite co-hosts, allow listeners to request speaker access, and remove or block accounts if needed. Up to 11 people can speak at once (including the primary host). Listeners who want to speak can raise their hand and request access, which the host can grant or deny.

What happens to a Space after it ends?

Live Spaces are ephemeral by nature, but they don’t disappear entirely. Hosts can record their Spaces, and anyone can view the recording afterward. Additionally, anyone in the Space can create 30-second clips and share them as Posts, complete with audio and visual transcription. This extends the life of your live conversation and lets people who missed it catch key moments. Recorded Spaces can also be found in the Spaces tab, making them discoverable long after the live event ends.

How is X Spaces different from other audio platforms?

Unlike Clubhouse or standalone podcasting apps, Spaces lives inside X, so discovery and sharing are built into the platform where your followers already are. Spaces are free to host and join—no paywall or app download required beyond X itself. The live, unfiltered nature of audio conversations creates a different dynamic than written posts or even video. Spaces also integrate seamlessly with X’s broader ecosystem: you can link Posts within a Space, use live captions for accessibility, and clip moments to share as regular Posts.
