Without further ado, let’s jump right into social media image sizes for 2022.
We couldn’t have started this list with any other platform than Facebook. What are the social media image sizes for Facebook that you need to follow in 2022? What are the right Facebook cover photo dimensions? What is the best Facebook profile picture size? What Facebook photo size to choose? We’ve got the answers to all of those questions.
Long story short: while many Facebook image sizes remained the same as in 2021, you’ll find a few updates and surprises on the list!
Image sizes: 1200 x 630 px recommended, 470 px width min.
Shared images are those that have been posted on your timeline and are displayed the same on both desktop and mobiles. The only thing you have to make sure is that all elements look great on mobile before publishing them. Before 2020, you may have also had to check the 20% text rule, but this was partly ruled out in 2020.
Image sizes:
Link posts are clickable Facebook updates that redirect the user to a specific external page instead of zooming in on the picture. Link posts are used both as ad posts and as thumbnails of any shared link. For this type of posts, it’s possible to edit Facebook link preview too.
What are the Facebook image sizes for a link post, though?
You can use either a square (1:1 aspect ratio) or a rectangle of aspect ratio up that of a shared image (1.91:1).
Image sizes: 170 x 170 px (desktop) or 128 x 128 px (mobile) recommended
A Facebook profile photo can be found as a profile photo on your Facebook profile, as well as a Facebook Page profile photo. The recommended Facebook profile picture size is 170 x 170 px.
It is important to keep the photo relatively legible, especially if you include your logo or some text on it. Such Facebook profile photos will also appear when your page or profile interacts with others by publishing comments or sending messages.
You need to keep in mind that your profile picture will be a circle. If you want to emphasize some content in your profile photo then move it away from the circle’s edge, otherwise it may be cut off at the corners.
Image sizes: 851 x 315 px (in PNG/sRGB/JPG files of 100 KB max size) recommended, displayed as 820 x 312 px (desktop) or 640 x 360px (mobile).
Facebook cover photos are displayed at the top of each Facebook page, profile, or group (although the sizes vary for groups as you’ll learn later on), and are usually the first thing a person on Facebook sees when they visit that page or profile.
This is why you should choose a Facebook cover photo that reflects your brand, values, or personality, and enlarge it appropriately.
Facebook cover photo dimensions vary the most when comparing desktop and mobile versions. Setting up safety margins and moving important elements to the middle may save your Facebook cover photo from unaesthetic cut-offs.
Your profile picture will slightly overlap the cover photo on both desktop and mobile, so it’s best to move essential information to completely undisturbed areas of the latter.
Facebook also recommends making a cover photo or video rather light for quicker loading times, which can also be applied to all Facebook image sizes.
Image sizes: 1640 x 856 px, (1.91:1 aspect ratio, desktop) or 1640 px x 664 px (mobile) recommended, so keep a 96 px safety margin on top and bottom
Video sizes: 1250 x 312 px min and 20 to 90 s duration, 1250 x 463 px (2.7:1 aspect ratio) recommended
Facebook group cover photos are displayed at the top of each group and have an important role to play. They help potential members quickly identify the goal of the group before joining, and highlight the value it is trying to promote.
This type of cover photo is different from those that are typically found on profiles or pages, so if you want to use the same graphics you’ll have to adjust them first.
For group cover photos the dimensions of mobile versions are shorter by 192 px in height than the recommended desktop versions. Your cover photo should therefore not have any critical information at the top or bottom, since it may not be visible for mobile users.
Make sure you leave top and bottom margins on your Facebook Group cover photos then!
Image sizes: 1200 x 628 px (1.91:1 aspect ratio)
On Facebook, each event has a cover photo that appears at the top of the page. It can be e.g. a poster or a zoomed agenda, but you need to have the right Facebook event photo size in order to display it correctly.
The Facebook event photo size will be reduced to a thumbnail and displayed as a link if you decide to share your event on Facebook. However, you should consider not only the size but also ideas for your cover photo, as it may inspire others to participate. So, while it’s true that a Facebook event photo size does matter, you can’t forget about keeping the image informative and to the point either.
Image sizes: 1080 Ă— 1920 px (9:16 aspect ratio) recommended, 1080 x 1420 px title-safe area
Facebook Stories are being used increasingly more often by brands around the world. Stories are published by companies to showcase corporate culture, launch new products, engage customers ,or run contests. Name a goal, Facebook Stories can help achieve it.
There are many ways that you can use Facebook stories, so knowing the Facebook image sizes for this format is definitely helpful.
The recommended ratio is 9:16, but you need to consider the title-safe area when creating your Facebook Stories as the username and navigation buttons appear in the top and bottom margins. Leave 14% (or 250 px for the recommended size) space clear for both.
Facebook Stories can be extremely helpful for growing your social media. Read our guide on how to schedule a post on Facebook to streamline your workflow even more.
Your Facebook ads should be visually appealing, include clear calls to action, and…be the right size. What image sizes should you use for Facebook ads?
Image sizes: highest-resolution available (between 1.91:1 and 4:5 aspect ratio), or with link at least 1080 Ă— 1080 px (between 1.91:1 and 1:1 aspect ratio)
Feed Ads are those that appear on your News Feed both on mobile devices and desktops, and they should be the size of Facebook link posts.
Square posts have proven popular with brands who want to conquer mobile because the text is more visible and takes up more space on the news feed, making it harder to miss.
Image sizes: at least 1200 x 1200 px (between 16:9 and 1:1 aspect ratio) recommended
Right-column ads are only shown on the right side of the News Feed on desktop.
If your creatives have a lot of text, they may be hard to read in this placement. When designing them, choose a message that is suitable for this ad size or select a different placement.
Video sizes: between 9:16 and 16:9 aspect ratio and 1 s to 240 mins duration (in MP4/MOV files with 4 GB max size), a vertical video may be masked to 4:5 in News Feed.
Videos are frequently used in Facebook Ads. It may be more convenient for some brands to release a video showcasing their products or services, while others test video ads for better performance. Why is that so? It is believed that video advertisements are often more cost-effective than advertising with static images, and not only on social media.
As high-quality videos are becoming more popular, you need to remember that Facebook won’t let you upload any clip larger than 4 GB in size. You may therefore need to compress or reduce the resolution of a HD video before uploading it.
Image sizes: 1080 x 1080 px (1:1 aspect ratio) recommended, 600 x 600 px minimum.
Carousel ads show a variety of products or creatives in one advertisement. To see them in their full glory, swipe horizontally (on mobile) or click the arrows at the side.
You need at least 2 images for 2 carousel cards, and a maximum of 10 cards for a carousel ad (the maximum size of all files combined can’t exceed 30 MB). The sequence should flow logically so your audience will swipe to the last card.
What is the Twitter header size and Twitter banner size in 2022? Hello marketers, we’ve got you covered! Check the latest social media image sizes for Twitter right now.
Image size: 400 Ă— 400 px recommended, 2 MB max size
A Twitter profile picture appears on your own account and under your posts or comments.
Don’t forget to optimize the resolution of a logo to make sure it’s visible wherever you use your profile. On Twitter, your profile picture is displayed as a circle, so if you have any important brand elements in the corner then you should move them towards the middle.
Image size: 1500 Ă— 500 px recommended, safety margin of 60 px on top and bottom, cropped to a 2:1 aspect ratio on mobile.
The Twitter profile header is the first thing your followers will see when they view your profile, along with the profile photo.
It can provide a great deal of information, especially if your profile is private and so nothing else is visible. It’s also displayed as a thumbnail when hovering over your nickname on Twitter.
When designing your header, is it important to not only remember about the right Twitter header size, but also to allow for safety margins at the top and bottom. This is because Twitter crops the photo to a 2:1 aspect ratio on mobile.
Image sizes: displayed at a 16:9 ratio of 600 by 335 px (preview), can be clicked and expanded to 1200 by 675 px, 5 MB max size
Photo posts are found in Twitter streams and shared by brands, often with links and hashtags in the copy.
Keep such photos in GIF, JPEG, or PNG formats with a Twitter banner size of less than 5 MB. Up to 4 photos can be uploaded in a single tweet.
Image sizes: 600 px min width, between 2:1 and 1:1 aspect ratios – on mobile images are displayed at a 16:9 ratio though, so keep that in mind.
Your ads should be creative and tailored specifically for Twitter, taking into account both its specifications and size requirements.
Promoted images and GIFs are often brands’ go-to content types when it comes to advertising campaigns on Twitter. Keep the aspect ratio between 2:1 and 1:1 (the image will be cropped to 1:1 if it exceeds the height of the widget) and a minimum width of 600 px.
Video sizes: 512 MB max size, 2 min 20 s max duration
Videos are gaining popularity on social media, and Twitter is no different. The thing you need to keep in mind here is that you’re quite limited as for the duration (140 s max) and size (512 MB is a significant limit for a high-quality video).
Not many brands have yet used images with promoted polls, but this type of interaction can be quite valuable for driving engagement. When making polls, make sure you match them with an image or video of the appropriate size.
Social media image sizes for Instagram changed quite drastically in the past couple of years! So let’s see the Instagram story dimensions, Instagram profile picture size, and Instagram photo size are now.
Image size: displayed at 110 x 110 px min (1:1 aspect ratio) – however, they are stored at 320 x 320 px
The Instagram profile picture size will be reduced to a miniature that is displayed right next to your comments or on the Instagram feed above your published photos. Displayed in full on your profile, the Instagram photo size for this type should have a 1:1 aspect ratio.
Just like it is on Facebook and Twitter, your profile image will be circled.
Image sizes: 1080 x 566 px landscape, 1080 x 1350 px portrait, 1080 x 1080 px square recommended (between 1.91:1 and 4:5 aspect ratios)
Making sure your photos display the right way is vitally important if you want your brand to succeed on Instagram!
There are three instagram photo sizes to choose from: Landscape, Portrait, or Square. The maximum width of each of them is 1080 px, so any excess above this will be cropped.
It’s always beneficial to schedule Instagram posts in advance, regardless of what content type and size you choose as your main one.
Stories: 1080 x 1920 px, between 16:9 and 4:5 or 9:16 (1.911:1 for dynamic ads) aspect ratios. Safe area 1080 x 1420 px
When designing Instagram Stories, it is crucial to remember about the so-called safe area (1080 x 1420 px) in terms of Instagram story dimensions.
When you post Stories on your profile, you should leave some margins (around 15%) on the top (where your nickname is displayed) and bottom (where the navigation buttons are). This way, your creatives will definitely not be hidden and your audience can get to know them better. Keep that in mind when adjusting your Instagram story dimensions.
Sizes: 1080 x 1920 px recommended, 864 x 864 px square (in the center of the picture)
Instagram Stories Highlights resemble Instagram Stories, but they don’t disappear after 24 h once saved to your profile.
They act as a collection of Instagram Stories that your followers, or anyone who visits your profile if it’s public, can tap into and watch any time they like.
The most important part of the picture should be in the center, since it will be displayed as a miniature above your Instagram feed.
If you don’t use Instagram Stories because you don’t have any inspirations or benchmarks, we got you covered! Check our Instagram stories best practices and examples to get inspired.

The recommended size for cover photos for your IGTV videos is 420 x 654 px (1:1.55 aspect ratio). At the moment, you can’t edit a cover photo once it has been uploaded.
Sizes: 9:16 (1080 X 1920) or vertically full screen
Instagram Reels are displayed to your profile followers and, if you have a public account, to people who do not yet follow it. If you already use TikTok, the first time you see Instagram Reels, you will probably get the impression that TikTok and the new Instagram feature look very similar; you record videos and watch them in the same way.
There are a few more LinkedIn formats that you can use in your communication in 2022. Let’s take a look!
Image sizes: between 400 x 400 px and 7680 x 4320 px (in PNG/JPG files of 8 MB max size)
LinkedIn is a professional online business networking platform, so your profile photo should show your professional attributes. It will be prominently displayed on your own LinkedIn profile, but also alongside any posts, LinkedIn publishing articles, comments, or shares posted from your account.
A LinkedIn profile photo will be circled in the same way as the aforementioned platforms.
Image sizes: Minimum (and recommended) image size is 1128 x 191 px (5.9:1 aspect ratio) in PNG/JPG/GIF files, 8 MB max size
Your cover photo will be visible to anyone who visits your profile.

Make sure your cover photo is designed with a safety margin in the bottom-left region, which is usually overlapped by the LinkedIn profile photo.
Image sizes: 300 Ă— 300 px recommended
A company profile photo will be displayed on the Company Page and next to any posts shared by it.
In addition, it will also appear in the “companies you may want to follow” section and in search results (which is helpful if there are a few companies that share the same name).
Unlike personal profiles, though, a company profile photo is not circular but rectangular.
Image sizes: 1128 x 191 px recommended
Company cover photos are displayed at the top of Company Pages as a kind of business card. They should, therefore, be professional, as it is likely they will give a first impression of the company to viewers and potentially encourage them to follow that Company Page.
Image sizes: 1200 x 627 px (1.91:1 aspect ratio) on mobile, 200 px min width
Images shared in posts are either attached to links or uploaded as posts. They should be sized at 1200 x 628 px, but the minimum width is 200 px if the image is smaller.
Images on LinkedIn can help your potential audience identify your posts more easily, which is why Linkedin photo posts should be an integral part of your posting strategy.
Video sizes: 256 x 144 px to 4096 x 2304 px resolution (in files of 75 KB to 5 GB in size, not AVI/QuickTime/MOV), 3 s to 10 min duration, 10 to 60 fps frame rate, 192 kbps to 30 mbps bit rate.
Videos, which are becoming increasingly popular on LinkedIn, may boost your reach and professional appearance. LinkedIn only supports certain video formats, so you may need to convert your existing files.Globally, LinkedIn has played a more important role in businesses’ marketing strategies. For many brands, LinkedIn scheduling makes the entire process easier and faster.
We’ve discovered a few small differences when it comes to Pinterest image sizes in 2022 – check out what changed!
Image sizes: 165 x 165 px displayed (in JPG/PNG files of 10MB max size)
On Pinterest, the profile image is displayed both on the profile preview and beside each “pin” you post. The image is also circled on Pinterest, so keep in mind that the corners will be cropped.
Image sizes: 1000 x 1500 px (2:3 aspect ratio) recommended, 1000 x 1000 px square pins, 20 MB max size
Pins are pieces of content that you post on your board. They should have a 2:3 aspect ratio, so images with a greater one may be cut off in people’s feeds.
Video sizes: standard video taller than 1.91:1 and shorter than 1:2, aspect ratio with square (1:1) or vertical (2:3 or 9:16) recommended, max width promoted videos have a 1:1 aspect ratio, MP4/MOV/M4V files with H.264 encoding of 2 GB max size, 4 s to 15 mins duration, horizontal videos must have a 16:9 aspect ratio
Did you know that you can upload and promote video clips on Pinterest? Since Pinterest is abundant with photos, videos may be what make the difference. Keep the correct aspect ratio in mind, as it differs for standard width videos and max width promoted videos.
Image sizes: 1000 x 1500 px or 1000 x 1000 px (2:3 or 1:1 aspect ratio) recommended (in PNG/JPEG files of 32 MB max size), 2 to 5 images per carousel
You can also showcase your work via carousel posts. On Pinterest, you’re limited to five images instead of ten, on Facebook, with the size of each photo larger on the former. Square images are recommended, but you can use rectangles as well.
Image sizes: 16:9 aspect ratio (crop or pan to fit), 800 x 450 px min
Pinterest is another site you should upload your profile pic to! While it has its own recommended dimensions, any image with a 16:9 aspect ratio should do.
Images? On YouTube? Yes, that’s right! There are a couple of YouTube image sizes you should keep in mind.
Image sizes: 800 Ă— 800 px recommended (in JPG/BMP/PNG/non-animated GIF files), 98 x 98 px photo rendering
Be sure that your profile photo on YouTube is clear and brand-relevant. It will appear next to every comment and submission on your channel preview. GIFs are only allowed if static.
Image sizes: 2560 x 1440 px (16:9 aspect ratio) recommended, 2048 x 1152 px min, 1235 x 338 pixels safe area, 6 MB max size
A YouTube cover photo is only displayed when clicking through to visit your channel page.
The viewer may be encouraged to watch other videos if the cover photo is eye-catching and carries a special message.
Ensure your text and logos will not overlap so that they are easily visible on all devices.
How is Snapchat doing in 2022? There are some brands that are still going strong on this platform, so it’s worth mentioning the best Snapchat image sizes.Â
Image sizes: 1080 Ă— 1920 px (9:16 aspect ratio), 150 px safety margins, 5 MB max size
Video sizes: 3 to 180 s duration, 1 GB max size
Snapchat Stories are published as both photos and videos on your feed.
A safety margin at the top and bottom of Stories is good practice, just as it is for other social media platforms.
Move content towards the center to ensure important elements are not obscured by icons or nicknames.
Image sizes: 1080 x 2340 px (in transparent background PNG files of 300 KB max size), 310 px buffer zone at the top and bottom
When creating filter images, pay close attention to the size of the buffer zone at the top and bottom. If you do not stay within the “safety area,” your filter may be ineffective or unattractive.
Also, remember to save your filter images as PNGs with transparent backgrounds!
Many TikTok videos went viral since 2020, entertaining millions and changing the lives of the creators. It’s not surprising that others want to follow in their footsteps. They need to know the latest social media image sizes for TikTok first though!
Image sizes: 1:1 aspect ratio
Profile photos appear both on your profile and in your TikTok comments. Bear in mind that if someone embeds your TikTok video on their website or shares it on social media then your profile photo may be displayed too, so you should keep it as clean as possible.
Vide sizes: 720 Ă— 1280 px / 640 x 640 px / 1280 Ă— 720 px (9:16 / 1:1 / 16:9 aspect ratio), 500 MB max size
TikTok gives its users flexibility regarding the width and height of their videos, but they need to be careful about the size limitations of 287 MB on iOS and only 72 MB on Android.
This may be challenging, so you should always check the file size before editing and uploading, especially if the video is high quality or includes various effects.
Image sizes: 1200 x 628 px (1.91:1 aspect ratio) recommended (in JPG/PNG files of 500 KB max size)
TikTok’s “For You” feed features image ads.
Safety margins apply here as well. It’s recommended that you keep some creative elements closer to the middle of your ad, else the description and logo may overlap them.
The lighter, the better! Try to make your images as small as possible to ensure a quick loading time.
Also, if you want to run some video ads, here’s the most up-to-date and advanced specification directly from TikTok.
Last but not least: Tumblr! Let’s check out how Tumblr image sizes look in 2022.Â
Image sizes: 128 x 128 px displayed (JPG/GIF/PNG/BMP)
Tumblr profile pictures are square, so you don’t have to fuss too much. Your profile pic will be displayed as a thumbnail on your Tumblr page and across the platform.
Image sizes: 500 x 750 px displayed, 10MB max size (3 MB for animated GIFs), 540 px max width
Photos shared on Tumblr should be rectangular, 540 px wide, and less than 10 MB.
Image size: 3000 x 1055 px recommended
When designing a Tumblr banner, make sure to keep the aspect ratio near 3:1, otherwise some elements of your graphics may display badly.
